World Cancer Day
posted in Cancer |According to International Union Against Cancer (UICC), cancer is diagnosed each year worldwide to 12 million people and 7.6 million die from this disease. If no action is taken, it is estimated that by 2030 there will be 26 million new cancer cases and 17 million deaths, the increase is faster in countries with low and medium incomes. The good news is that approximately 40% of cancers can be prevented. The risk of developing cancer associated with snuff, with a high alcohol consumption, excessive sun exposure and obesity can be reduced significantly by avoiding these risk factors and promoting healthy behaviors, like exercising regularly and follow a healthy diet.
This year the World Day campaign against cancer takes the slogan “Cancer can also be prevented. Organize this journey through the UICC World Cancer Declaration, and Spain joined this campaign, the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), the ONL of reference in the fight against this disease.
56 years of experience in the AECC
The AECC is a NPOs (Non Profit), declared private and public utility that takes 56 years working in the fight against cancer. Integra in its midst patients, families, volunteers and professionals working together to prevent, awareness, accompanying persons, and fund cancer research projects that will enable better diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Structured in 52 Provincial Boards and present in more than 2,000 Spanish locations, the work of the AECC is developed through its more than 14,000 volunteers and 731 employees, under a philosophy of collaboration with health authorities, scientific institutions and other entities pursuing a similar end to the partnership. This always under the principles of independence, professionalism, transparency and closeness.
Funding excellence in cancer research
The AECC remains one of its priority objectives of quality cancer research, to that end the Science Foundation was born on 25 October 1971.
The Foundation brings together the social demand for cancer research, programs financed by public competition and social scientific research. These programs are aimed at achieving progress in science to improve the future of ill people and their families, to build a scientific structure in Spain and thereby contribute to economic development of our country, bringing the whole society has been achieved.
